I DID NOT RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF THE MEETING ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 26TH!

I received a zoning change notification. The zone would be changed from R-1 (single family dwelling) to A-2 (high density apartment). The letter indicates a skilled nursing facility. Exactly what is the petitioner trying to get?

Sounds like the petition is for part of the Raider Ranch development. I think part of that is supposed to be an assisted living center.

Absolutely shameful. That is how I would describe the "meeting" last week. Let me list for you all of the people in attendance:
Susie and Beth (the developer's representatives), my Wife, my two sons, and me. That's it!
The meeting was scheduled and listed in the flyer from the last meeting as well as the newsletter that followed. No real good excuses for missing it. Especially all of those people that sat at the last meeting and complained about this problem or that. Really? And yet you don't even care enough to attend the scheduled meetings? Absolutely shameful.

We did make a few decisions at the last meeting though (the developers and I).
1. From now on there are to be no more vehicles parked in the street or in driveways.
2. No pets of any kind are allowed in Milwuakee Ridge.
3. No property may have more than three people living at it. Including children.
4. The pool and park will be demolished and replaced with an industrial warehouse.

I'm kidding about all of this of course. Just trying to get some people's attention. These are the kinds of decisions that could be made at these meetings though if you do not attend and put in your opinions.

A few things we really did talk about though.
1. There are almost $5,000 in unpaid membership dues. People, you moved into a neighborhood with an HOA. You all knew this from the start and signed contracts to that effect. You will be held accountable. The longer you wait to pay the dues, the more penalties will be accessed. The HOA does have the legal power to collect on these dues and can even put a Lien on your property if you do not. That means you can not sell your property until you have paid all dues and subsequent fines. Pay your dues!
2. The gate at the pool would cost $2474.00 to put in a locking system. This is because the gate has to be able to open from the inside without the use of a key. the gate has to be made solid so that someone from the outside can not just reach in and open it. This could be paid for if everyone was paying their dues.
3. Another temporary solution might be to issue "Pool Passes" to the members. This could be as simple as a bright laminated card on a lanyard that is carried with the homeowners to the pool to help identify themselves to others. If you do not have your pool pass in your possesion at the pool, you may be asked to leave and/or to go home and get it. Simple, cheap solution to help identify those who do or do not belong there.
4. I suggested we get a dumpster at the park for the city to empty regularly. Evenually it wouold need to have a nice enclosure built for it to help hide it.
5. We also suggested a different format for the website to allow better access to information and discussions without having to be a Google member.
6. We suggested that for the next meeting that the developers put notifications in mail boxes and that might help alert people better.

My apologies - if the date was mentioned at the last meeting I completely forgot. If some kind of reminder could go out (maybe by email) if would be extremely helpful. I have received one newsletter - didn't know if others had gone out. I do want to be involved and attend meetings.

Regarding the zoning change - I have looked at the master plan for Raider Ranch and the large three story sections in the middle are the assisted living and medical areas. I'm hesitant to change residential zones to apartment housing - especially wondering 10 - 20 years from now what that could do to the housing value. Is anyone attending the meeting on Thursday?

We did not get notification of the meeting either. We were home and would have attended had we known about it. We have received one newsletter since the first meeting postmarked June 18, 2008. We didn't even know about the change in the web page. I just went searching tonight and found it. Is there a way to get better communication among the members. Our dues is up to date and, while it needs to be mowed, we do have a lawn. We are interested in helping in any way possible.
One thing I would like considered. Our park looks much nicer when the pond (that's what we call similar little bodies of water in the Northeast) always has water in it. Any way we can do that?

Unfortunately, as ponds go, what we have in our park is not that. It is more literally a water catchment and detention area. It's water levels have to recede between rains or the water that comes out of our neighborhood streets would flood us out. Nest time it rains really good, look at how high it gets. Now imagine that same amount of water stuck in our streets with nowhere to go. Yikes. This area is also on private lands and not in a public park, so I think tying it into the Cities overflow system (like many of the other playa lakes areound the city are) would not be an option even if we could afford it.
